ATLANTA, Georgia – Today, lifelong Georgian and attorney Calina Plotky announced her candidacy for Congress in Georgia’s 13th Congressional District.
“For too long, career politicians in Washington have been comfortable failing Americans. Georgians know it’s time for change, and that it takes an outsider to solve the problems we face. That’s why I’m challenging a 20 year incumbent,” said Plotky.
“As an attorney with experience in business and immigration law, as a second generation American, as a mother of two, and as a wife, I’m running to bring a new, fresh perspective to Congress. We need to re-evaluate how Washington thinks and fix how our government functions. It’s time to take real action on the out-of-control spending that has raised our debt to an unsustainable level. It’s time to provide affordable education that will make our workforce competitive on the world stage again. It’s time for a representative to go to work for Georgia with real life experience and a heart focused on service.”
Calina Plotky was born and raised right here in Atlanta. Her mother is an immigrant from Brazil who didn’t speak a word of English when she walked through the doors of Perdue University, where she excelled in math and science. Growing up in Georgia and frequently visiting her mother’s home country, Calina developed a love of the freedom and opportunity that the United States offered her.
At age 12, Calina’s parents chose to get a divorce. It was a difficult divorce for all involved however, it resulted in her desire to help others avoid the same. She developed a deep appreciation for family law at that early age. At 20, Calina chose life for her first child, Sidney, knowing the challenges that faced her as she continued her education. Calina went on to graduate with an undergraduate degree from Georgia State University, and received her Juris Doctorate from Atlanta’s John Marshall School of Law.
After law school, Calina sat the bar in Georgia and went into immigration law and international business law, developing a deep understanding of the United States immigration system. She went on to practice in personal injury and catastrophic workers’ compensation before joining KF Law. In her current role, Calina works primarily in family law, helping families through one of the most difficult times in their lives while ensuring the best possible outcome for children in these challenging situations. She is a member of the State Bar of Georgia and admitted to practice in the State Courts of Georgia, the Georgia Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court of Georgia. She practices regularly before the Superior Courts of Cobb, Fulton, Fayette, Coweta, Spalding, Cherokee, Gwinnett, and DeKalb Counties.
Calina lives in Atlanta with her wife, Liz, and her children, Sidney, 13, and Isaac, 5, and a new baby on the way. Calina is running for Congress for her children’s future—she knows it’s time to introduce some common sense to our federal government. It’s time to think toward our future when it comes to education, fiscal responsibility, and drastic overreach. It’s time to work on the issues that matter, to stop passing massive omnibus bills, and to re-evaluate how Washington thinks.
As your Congresswoman, Calina will fight for parents, for children, and most importantly, for you.
